Insect Baby Nursery

This all started with a quilt - I make one for all of my nieces and nephews.  My sister requested insects, not bugs, and primary colors.  The baby is going to be named Cobalt, so you know that I had to go there.  I started with the quilt.  It took me forever to find the right fabric.  I hardly ever do this, but I ordered this designer fabric special from online and I was thrilled with it.  I designed this quilt 100% on my own, something I also rarely do.

The quilt and my friend Keri inspired me to create matching curtains.  Here is a link to a tutorial for how to do these: http://roselynrobison.blogspot.com/2014/03/black-out-stenciled-wall-curtains.html.  The curtains took forever, but they are truly works of art in themselves.

I had some fabric leftover and a lamp that has been useless in the garage for a long while - it never really fit correctly in my house, but I couldn't get rid of it, because my dad hand-turned it.  This inspired an awesome, upcycled lampshade.  The tutorial for that is here: http://roselynrobison.blogspot.com/2014/03/diy-tutorial-fabric-lampshade.html.

My sister added the final touches: framed bugs - not prints, real bugs!!!  They brought everything together.  I was SO happy to be able to do this for my nephew and sister.  It was a ton of work, but I am so glad that he is going to have a completely unique, custom nursery when he gets here.  I was also very flattered that my sister trusted me to do this.  I love her dejected dog, must know he's about to be displaced, in this picture.  Poor Oliver Javier.
